Making something… from nothing

April 5th, 2007 by ov3rdramatic

Hey people, havnt done a blog in awhile so i thought i would put some of my ideas down before thursday. before i start on whats in my head i just wanted to comment on what sam was saying about artists always singing with other artists. ITS SO TRUE, they dont seem to be able to do anything by themselves anymore. in the old days it was all about your voice and the lyrics you were singing, now it about your image and how FABULOUS you look, so why stop at one hot person, we should add a few more together, they will look better and we will make more mooolah. MUSIC SHOULD BE ABOUT THE MUSIC, NOT THE IMAGE. THEY HAVE JUST TURNED INTO WHAT TRUE PUNKS WOULD CALL “SELL OUTS”.  show the fellings not the money.

But anyway now to what i was gonna say lol. um i saw a movie the other day called In & Out that reminded me of the concept that we are working on, individuality vs conformity. in this movie the main character relizes he is gay after leaving his fiance at the alter. He is at the school one day were he teachers, were he is ment to be accepting a award for being teacher of the year, at the student graduation. The school decides not to give this award to him anymore, but instead to another teacher because of the fact that he is gay, and it is not seen as an appropriate thing for a teacher at this school. It is when one of his students stands up in the crowd for his teacher and declares that he is a good teacher and that infact he is also gay. the girl sitting next to him relizes what he is doing and joins in saying that she is a lesbian. One after another students, family and friends of this teacher all declare that they are also gay (even his mother and father). they all do this to prove that he is no different to anyone else, everyone is the same. I found this interesting because as one person he could not stand up and be gay, but when everyone else stood by him and declared themselves gay, it made it seem like he wasnt different to them at all. He was individual and they had conformed for him.

Another thing that i have been doing during the holidays is looking at lyrics for highly significant artists of the past and “regular” artists of today. this is because of the concept that my good has been looking at so that our artists can speak. i think that artists that really ment something should be able to speak their minds and say anything with “meaning”. whereas “recycled artists or comercial artist should only be able to speak using their own lyrics, as if that is all they are. only figuments of our imagaination, with no real heart. For example, what Kara said about justine timberlake using his name in everything he says. Or even Michael Jackson. Even though he significantly changed music, he is no longer about the music, its just all about the tablodes. He could say things like, it doesnt matter if you’re black or white, i’m bad, i’m bad, i’m really really bad.

Anyways i think thats enough from me. Cant wait to get into it guys

Peace out
